Type 3 Primary
Type 3 Primary is a permeable sub-base aggregate, produced from quarried limestone, granite, or ragstone. Its open-graded structure provides both strong load-bearing capacity and drainage, making it ideal for sports surfaces, driveways, and SuDS applications.

Product Details
Created from high-quality quarried rock, Type 3 Primary contains particles ranging from 0/40 mm, with a reduced fines content compared to Type 1. This open grading allows water to permeate at a high rate, ensuring rapid drainage while still delivering the stability and strength required for sub-base construction.
Type 3 Primary is commonly specified for sports pitches, equestrian arenas, driveways, paths, patios, and tennis courts, particularly where drainage is a key consideration.
Unlike some alternatives, Type 3 Primary is not to be confused with graded 4/20 mm Cleanstone, as it retains a small proportion of fines for improved compaction. Produced to meet SHW 805 / CC 201 and BS EN 13285 standards, this aggregate is a compliant, high-performance solution for permeable sub-base layers.
