Type 4 Recycled / Crushed Asphalt

Type 4 Recycled contains a mixture of particles, ranging from 0/32 mm, with a high bitumen binder content that provides natural cohesion. Often termed Crushed Asphalt, it does not compact as tightly as traditional road planings due to the angular shape created by crushing, however, it does offer good drainage characteristics thanks to the bitumen content.

Type 4 is not intended to meet Type 1 specifications and should not be confused with unprocessed road planings, which do not conform to any grading standard.

This material is often used as a hard core for temporary roadways, bridleways, site compounds, and as a sub-base where a permeable, easily compacted layer is required. Supplied as a 0/32 mm grade, Type 4 Recycled will perform well even if left unsurfaced for extended periods.

Produced to SHW 807 / CC 201 and BS EN 13285 standards, this is a compliant and cost-effective solution for temporary and semi-permanent works.
